Features

Laser.alashed.kz produces SVG files that can be opened directly in a browser, as well as PostScript and (via pstoedit) other vector formats — DXF, PLT (HPGL), G-code.

The library and all generators allow you to choose the material thickness and automatically adjust the lengths and widths of finger joints, fasteners and other elements.

The burn parameter compensates for the material burned away by the laser. This lets you fine-tune the clearance of joints — to the point where plywood can be assembled without glue, with a tight press fit.

Finger joints are the core technique of the library. They work for 90° corners and T-joints. The finger sizes scale with material thickness so that the appearance stays uniform. The library can also add holes and slots for bed bolts inside finger joints.

Dovetail joints are used to assemble parts that lie in the same plane.

Flex cuts allow the material to bend and stretch in one direction. This is needed for rounded edges and «living» hinges.

What we improved

We took a battle-tested parametric box engine as the foundation and tailored it for Kazakhstani makers: we translated the interface and documentation into Russian and Kazakh, updated the web interface so it is comfortable to use on both phone and desktop, and gathered the tutorials in this Wiki in one place.
